Three paintings selected for ING Discerning Eye 2020

The ING Discerning Eye @ingdiscerningeye  Exhibition opened virtually on 19th November and  runs until 31st December 2020. Visit the show at; www.ingdeexhibition.org

I am delighted to have three works in this years show- each one chosen by a different selector. The exhibition comprises both publicly submitted works and works independently selected by six prominent distinguished figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Each section is hung separately to give each its own distinctive identity. The impression emerges of six small exhibitions within the whole.
It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names. The selectors are solely responsible for their own selection; selection is not by committee.

‘Longing’ (In lockdown series)

Oil & Mixed media on canvas 28 x 23cm (Framed size)

Selected by David Remfry RA who wrote about how he made his selection;

“Ultimately, I need to see a quality in the work, a spark, something difficult to define. Often paintings skillfully executed and admirable in their ways don’t have that element”

‘Nesting II’ (In Lockdown)

Oil & mixed media on canvas; 28 x 23 cm (Framed) This piece ‘Nesting’ was selected by Dale Lewis -He described what motivated his choices;

“The work I selected for my section had an instant impact on me. I could tell within a few seconds, as I can with my own work, that something is worthy of further attention and investigation……….

….The work I selected was primarily figurative or had some kind of narrative close to the ordinary day to day scenes of people at home, on the street, with family, friends, dancing, screaming, laughing – something that we are too aware we have been missing desperately this year.”

‘Longing II’ (In Lockdown)

Oil & mixed media on panel; 25 x 20 cm.

 Selected by Beverley Knight MBE ‘Queen of British soul’ a recording artist and musical theatre actress whose career spans over 25 years. She wrote about her selection;

“I chose the pieces you’re about to see because of how they spoke to me, how I identified with them, or why they provoked such depth of emotion in me”.
